WordWarden Terms of Use (End User License Agreement)
Last updated: 2026-10-23
These terms are an agreement between you and [Company legal name] ("we", "us") about your use of WordWarden ("the Software"). By installing or using the Software, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't install or use it.
1. License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Software on computers you own or control, under the plan you purchased. You may not:
- copy, resell, sublicense, rent or distribute the Software, except as these terms allow;
- reverse-engineer, decompile or modify the Software, except where the law permits it despite this restriction;
- remove or change any copyright, trademark or license notices.
Open-source components included in the Software are licensed to you under their own licenses, listed under About → Legal → Third-party licenses in the app. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under those licenses.
2. AI transcription and accuracy
WordWarden converts speech to text using an AI speech-recognition model (OpenAI Whisper, run on your computer). AI transcription is not perfect. The Software may:
- mishear, misspell or leave out words;
- insert words, phrases or sentences that were never spoken ("hallucinations"), including text that is inaccurate, nonsensical, offensive or inappropriate;
- attribute speech to the wrong source when system audio and microphone are both in use;
- type text into the wrong window or field.
You are solely responsible for reviewing all text the Software produces before you send, publish, save or act on it. Transcribed text is generated automatically. It does not reflect the views of, and is not authored or endorsed by, us.
3. Not for critical use
Do not rely on the Software where errors could cause injury, death, financial loss, legal harm or property damage. This includes medical, legal, emergency, safety-critical, court or official-record transcription, or as an accessibility aid where no other means of review is available. If you use it in these settings anyway, you do so entirely at your own risk.
4. Your responsibilities when recording
The system audio and all audio features can transcribe audio from other people, such as participants in calls or meetings. Many places require the consent of everyone being recorded or transcribed. You are responsible for getting any consent the law requires and for complying with all recording, wiretapping and privacy laws that apply to you. Don't use the Software to record anyone unlawfully.
5. Privacy
The Software processes audio and text locally on your computer. We don't collect your audio, transcripts or usage data. Our Privacy Policy, available in the app under About → Legal → Privacy policy, explains this in full and forms part of these terms.
6. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.
7. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL OR REPUTATION. THIS INCLUDES ANY DAMAGES ARISING FROM INACCURATE, INAPPROPRIATE OR HALLUCINATED TRANSCRIPTIONS, OR FROM TEXT TYPED INTO THE WRONG PLACE. THIS APPLIES EVEN IF WE WERE ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SOFTWARE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR IT IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE.
Some provinces, states and countries don't allow certain exclusions or limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer-protection laws that can't be waived.
8. Indemnity
You agree to defend and indemnify us against any claims, damages and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Software in violation of these terms or of the law. This includes recording others without required consent, and acting on or distributing transcribed text without review.
9. Updates and termination
We may release updates that change or remove features. This license ends automatically if you breach these terms. When it ends, you must stop using and uninstall the Software. Sections 2–4 and 6–10 survive termination.
10. General
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Subject to any rights you have under the consumer-protection laws where you live, the courts of Alberta have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute about the Software. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Software.
